They say that “No island comes this close…”, not just because the Isle of Wight is impossible to beat for its natural beauty and the attractions it offers, but because it’s much closer to home than you might have imagined.

Depending on how you decide to travel to the Island, either by road or rail there are simple and direct routes to Portsmouth, Southampton and Lymington. If you’re travelling by road in your own car you can travel on many of the larger motorways to get to the ferry ports easily.

South Western Railway has train services from London Waterloo to Southampton, Portsmouth and Southsea, perfect for picking up the Red Jet, Wightlink catamaran or Hovertravel hovercraft to the Island.

National Express also regularly offer journeys from many towns and cities to Portsmouth, Southsea and Southampton which will allow you to connect with the cross Solent services.

In terms of onward travel especially for those travelling on foot, once you reach the Island, Southern Vectis operate an extensive bus network.  Offering a regular service connecting all major towns, villages and beaches.  This also give visitors more options to drive less and see more of our beautiful Island.
